BAHIA -- Ngo’s, stadsbesturen en uitgeverijen stappen wereldwijd over op FSC-gecertificeerd papier. Voor de gewone consument zijn er naast kopieer- en printpapier nu ook papieren zakdoekjes en zelfs behangpapier met het boompjes-logo. Om te onderzoeken of het groene imago van al dat papier wel gerechtvaardigd is, trokken An-Katrien Lecluyse en Leo Broers op onderzoek naar de eucalyptusplantages van de Braziliaanse deelstaat Bahia.

Maar het zoutmeer van Uyuni is rijk aan lithium, dè grondstof voor de fabricatie van batterijen, straks ook voor batterijen voor elektrische voertuigen. Om dat lithium is nu een schaakspel aan de gang tussen enkele multinationale bedrijven, de bevolking van Uyuni en de Boliviaanse regering. Ondanks aantrekkelijke voorstellen vanwege de multinationals houdt de regering vast aan haar nationalistische koers. Dat tonen de eerste resultaten van het onderzoek van Greet Brauwers en Raf Custers in Bolivië. Een voorbericht, in afwachting van hun reportage.

WASHINGTON - De Federal Trade Commission (FTC), de Amerikaanse organisatie die toezicht op de handelsmarkt houdt, gaat op zoek naar manieren om journalistiek te redden. Zolang de journalistiek blijft zoals we die nu kennen dan is ze wellicht met uitsterven bedreigd.
