IBC 2010– The changing media landscape
AMSTERDAM - The annual International Broadcasting Convention opens its doors between 9 and 14 September in the Amsterdam RAI-expo. IBC hosts 1,300+ exhibitors and 1,000+journalists from around the world, making it the premier destination for the unveiling of new products and technologies within the electronic media and entertainment industry. Central theme this year will be sports broadcasting as a key factor in the innovation of the media industry.
The main power of the IBC is the unique combination of an exhibition and a conference where feedback is given to the latest cutting edge technology. A highly professional and distinguished panel of media authorities will discuss the newest innovations. Technical developments, from Ultra High Definition camera’s to compact satellite communication systems, as well as new business models and journalistic evolution will be brought to the table on this mega conference.
High on the agenda will be the future of monetised media content. With the nytimes.com recently disappearing behind a pay wall the debate is hotter than ever. James Cameron as well moved the spirits in media country with the epic 3D film Avatar. Will this new technology come to our homes soon and how will it look like?
In this 2010 edition special attention will be paid to sports broadcasting. Key note speaker will be the Spanish Management Director of the Olympic Broadcasting Services, Manolo Romero. Romero started his career as a reporter during the 1968 Olympics in Mexico and soon became a sports legend. Michael Lumley, chairman of the conference committee, says the IBC will finally give sport the attention. “Television and live sport were made for each other, and the necessity to move an audience has lead to many of the technical innovations in our industry”
Other distinguished guests attending the IBC are Walt Disney’s vice president, Howard Lukk, Michael Grade for ITV and advertising guru Rory Sutherland for Ogilvy. The conference starts 9 September, the exhibition takes place the next day.
