Conference: From Monopoly to Globopoly - Media pluralism in the 21st Century
(BUDAPEST, 07/05/2008) -- MTV, Hungary's national public service television, is holding its 2nd media conference together with the Austrian public service broadcaster ORF at the Central European University in Budapest on Thursday, 12th of June. Keynote speakers include: Margot Wallström, Vice President of the EU Commission and Commissioner for Institutional Relations and Communication Strategy, and Abdul Waheed Khan, Deputy Director General of UNESCO. London conference to examine investigative journalism
(LONDON, 14/04/2008) -- Journalists interested in learning about and discussing the issues surrounding investigative reporting can attend a day-long conference in London on June 13, being hosted by the University of Westminster’s China Media Centre. Tentoonstelling: Afghanistan 2007 in beelden
(BRUSSEL, 05/04/2008) -- Totnogtoe was bij deBuren al een selectie te bewonderen van de indrukwekkende beelden die de jonge fotograaf Pieter-Jan De Pue afgelopen zomer maakte tijdens zijn reis door Afghanistan. Vanaf 9 april wordt de volledige reisreportage tentoongesteld. Het is moeilijk om níet stil te worden bij de prachtige portretten die De Pue meebracht van zijn bewogen tocht door de Afghaanse bergen. Zonder in exotiek te vervallen brengt hij de diversiteit van een land in beeld dat al te vaak wordt gevat in de clichés van vrouwen in blauwe boerka's, opiumrokende bebaarde mannen en patrouillerende NAVO-militairen. Globaliseringslezingen
Globalisering, of mondialisering, is een relatief nieuwe term voor een proces dat in feite al lange tijd gaande is. Vanaf het midden van de jaren negentig staat het begrip garant voor verhitte discussies tussen fervente voor- en tegenstanders over de vraag of globalisering "goed" is, en wie er eigenlijk de meeste vruchten van plukken. Tegenlicht organiseert samen met partners regelmatig debatten rondom het thema. Ongeveer eens per drie maanden. Rethinking European Media and Communications Policies
(BRUSSELS, 25/02/2008) -- Media and communications sectors are at the heart of EU’s efforts to create a true knowledge society. Innovative new offerings such as mobile television, Skype, iTunes and user generated content provide unique ways for citizens, consumers, industries and authorities alike to engage in and benefit from the knowledge economy. By blurring the traditional boundaries between broadcasting, telecommunication and information technologies, however, these new offerings also challenge the traditional policy frameworks within the EU. CIMIC, Centrum voor Intercultureel Management en Internationale Communicatie, is mede-organisator. Opzet is om een ruim publiek in Vlaanderen de kans te geven eminente experts uit binnen- en buitenland aan het woord te horen over de ruime en vooral zeer actuele thematiek van de interculturele verhoudingen.
