Policy Unit IBBT-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel
This lecture is closely related to the research activities of the policy unit within IBBT-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as it focuses on the intersection of media, European identity and media policy. Improvements in digital technologies and related convergence processes set a number of challenges to policy makers in different domains and on different policy levels. The policy unit identifies 3 interrelated core challenges on policy research requiring thorough and critical investigation as well as the development and refinement of research methods. Policy challenges are related to (i) content policies; (ii) access policies and (iii) competition policies, each driven by multilevel governance (WTO, EU, national, regional…)..
