The European Federation of Journalists

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) is a regional organisation of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). It is created within the framework of the IFJ Constitution and represents the interests of journalists' unions and their members within the industrial and political framework of Europe, particularly the European Union. Today the EFJ represents about 200.000 members in 29 countries.

  • The EFJ enforces trade union and professional matters across Europe through its network of IFJ-affiliated unions in Europe.
  • The EFJ works closely with the ETUC and other trade unions representing groups of workers in the media.
  • The EFJ closely monitors legislative procedures in the field of the media and social policy and is in contact with the European institutions, primarily the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of Ministers and also the Council of Europe.
