Nieuws - 11 redders van de journalistiek

(BRUSSEL - 17/01/2009) -- De Vlaamse overheid is volop aan het brainstormen over een staten-generaal voor de media. Zelf plande het Fonds Pascal Decroos (FPD) naar aanleiding van haar tiende verjaardag eind dit jaar een staten-generaal voor de journalistiek. Het FPD is sinds haar ontstaan bezig met de vraag ‘hoe kwaliteitsjournalistiek vrijwaren en verbeteren?’. Het is haar core business. Daarom denkt het Fonds aan het bezinningsmoment van de overheid een nuttige bijdrage te kunnen leveren. Pasklare oplossingen zijn niet voorhanden en de klassieke ingrediënten blijken onvoldoende. De vakbonden en de Vlaamse Vereniging van Beroepsjournalisten (VVJ) stellen gegronde vragen, maar ze bieden geen antwoord. Zijn de klassieke recepten niet achterhaald? Wordt het niet tijd om even ‘out of the box’ te denken? >>

Nieuws - Gates Foundation donates millions for global health media coverage

(New York, 09/12/2008) -- The cost of covering global health issues is expensive which means that news organizations have been cutting back on their reporting. In order to ensure coverage of their work in the health industry, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has offered a grant of $3.5 million to The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Nieuws - Pulitzer prizes expand to include web-only news outlets

Nieuws - Frontline Club journalism awards 2008

(LONDON, 28/11/2008) -- Frontline Club Charitable Trust announced this year’s winners of the Frontline Club Award and the Frontline Memorial Tribute. The celebration in association with Canon UK takes place in London, on the 28th of November. This time the organization has a special award to introduce the 2008 Frontline special Commendation. The winners of this year are the photograpers Yuri Kozyrev and Arkady Babchenko.
 

Nieuws - ‘Journalisten, trek de grens over!’

(BRUSSEL, 24/11/2008) -- ‘Journalisten, trek de grens over!’ Dat was het advies dat herhaaldelijk te horen was op het jaarlijkse Vlaams-Nederlandse congres voor onderzoeksjournalistiek, op vrijdag 21 en zaterdag 22 november in Brussel. ‘En werk samen met collega’s uit het buitenland!’ werd daar meer dan eens aan toegevoegd. Verder werd De Loep 2008, de prijs voor onderzoeksjournalistiek, uitgereikt aan Joep Dohmen (NRC), het team van Tegenlicht (VPRO), en Mirjam Pool. Nieuw is De Smoespoes, voor de beste uitvlucht die een journalist is tegengekomen. Winnaar: een voormalig financieel directeur van Bouwfonds, voor ‘een telefoonverbod van de dokter’. (The Hague, 27/11/2008) -- We are a group of students studying European Studies with as specialization Communication, at The Hague University, The Netherlands. We are currently busy with a project assigned to us by the European Centre for the Vocational Training. As part of our project we are going to answer the question: How are journalists able to be influenced in order to write about publications, as well as securing coverage of initiatives and polices which may be of low news value to their audience.

Nieuws - Jonge journalisten winnen persprijs Filip Decock

DEINZE - Op vrijdag 24 oktober 2008 is in Deinze de 10de Prijs Filip Decock uitgereikt. Naast de hoofdprijs van de Stichting Filip Decock is er ook een aanmoedigingsprijs van de stad Deinze toegekend. De Stichting Filip Decock is op een bijzondere manier actief op het gebied van ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Het hoofddoel van de stichting is het organiseren van een tweejaarlijkse wedstrijd waarbij een vernieuwende journalistieke bijdrage wordt bekroond. De stichting is genoemd naar de te vroeg overleden BRTN-journalist Filip Decock (1954-1988). De Stichting speurt naar geschreven journalistiek die de unieke combinatie maakt tussen pers en ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Laureaten van dit jaar zijn Ine ROOX (De Standaard) en An-Katrien LECLUYSE (Mondiaal Magazine).

Nieuws - EU-erlebnis wint Waaris.eu-prijs op Filmfestival

GENT - De 25-jarige Nils Dumortier uit Antwerpen heeft op het Filmfestival Gent de 'Waaris.eu'-prijs gewonnen. De wedstrijd bekroont filmmakers die er in slagen om een begrijpbaar filmpje van 60 seconden te maken over de Europese Unie. Dumortier ontvangt met zijn 'EU-erlebnis' een prijs van 1500 euro. De publieksprijs van 1000 euro gaat naar 'Samen Ster-k' van de 17-jarige Gust Bilcke uit Petegem.

Nieuws - Mediacademie leidt Vlaamse redacteurs en mediaprofessionals op

Met de steun van de Vlaamse overheid volgen redacteurs en andere mediaprofessionals in 2013 opnieuw een groot aantal opleidingen. Mediacademie wapent hen met de noodzakelijke journalistieke, zakelijke en technische competenties om de kwaliteit van de geschreven pers te waarborgen in een snel veranderend digitaal medialandschap. Nieuw dit jaar is een reeks workshops over actuele domeinen als datajournalistiek, diversiteit, auteursrecht en deontologie in een digitale omgeving.
 

Nieuws - Mediawijs tijdens de Digitale Week

Tv-kijkend Vlaanderen wacht een flinke dosis mediawijsheid. Mediawijs.be pakt, samen met VRT, LINC vzw en Emsoc, uit met een stevige campagne rond mediawijsheid. De campagne werd op maandag 8 april gelanceerd met de uitzending van een eerste tv-spot die nog tot 12 april te zien zal zijn op één.

A study into online journalistic start-ups and their business models conducted as a joint project of three universities was published recently. By looking at 69 case studies, it analyses the online journalism landscape in nine countries and gives recommendations to media entrepreneurs on how to build a sustainable online platform.

Met treffende eenvoud laat Erik Willems, masterstudent Journalistiek aan de Universiteit Gent, zien hoe journalisten aan de hand van datajournalistiek het onbevattelijke bevattelijk kunnen maken. “Het is leuk en nuttig om onhandelbare databases om te toveren in iets sprekends.”

AMSTERDAM - 3.241.442 euro. Dat is het totale bedrag dat het Stimuleringsfonds voor de Pers uitkeert na de eerste aanvraagronde aan subsidies in het kader van de Tijdelijke subsidieregeling persinnovatie.

De VRT en het film- en tv-platform FilmAngel.TV gaan samenwerken om jong talent op innoverende wijze te ondersteunen.
