Surround video based novel television production concepts and viewing experiences in the home and on the road, by Philippe Bekaert-IBBT
Experiencing a concert as if on stage, following cycling sports like a cameraman in the heat of the event, or participating in a talk show as if being there .... : panoramic and omni-directional ("surround") video presents a strong potential to making it possible from the comfort of your living room. This talk introduces how surround video can lead to novel television experiences closer to "exploring a broadcasted environment", than to "watching broadcasted imagery". It promises to significantly increase spectator engagement by putting the spectator literally at the heart of the experience and offers potential to novel concepts and cost savings in conventional television production as well. A highly visual and concise overview of concepts tried out, and results obtained, so far in the IBBT R&D project "explorative television" is presented.

3D on television, by Ronald Meyvisch-Euro Media Group
3D, a catalysor for cinema-digitalisation, by Tom Bert-Barco
The digitalisation of the projection-technology used in cinema started off around the millenium-turnover. However, the conversion was enhanced around 2010, as from when it reached a 'point of no return'. The influence of 3D on the matter was major. Barco, worldwide leader in digital cinema, will explain the use of 3D in the movie-theatre, how it led to a conversion of the market in general... and why the story isn't always rosy.

14:30 How semantic technology will help making the shift from file-based production to real-time co- production, by Maarten Verwaest-Limecraft & Roger Roberts-Titan
Current file-based production systems are designed according to a 'best of breed' principle.
Such an approach may lead to digital islands, where information is often duplicated but yet hard to retrieve, and manual interfaces ("Logging", "Annotation") are essential to integrate systems.
In this paper we will highlight the key characteristics of real-time co-production, some important aspects of semantic technology, how it improves current best practices in terms of system integration,
and eventually we will explain the design principles and architectural choices of a pilot project.
