In an increasingly frontierless yet complex world, there is a need for in-depth information that transcends national boundaries. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists was created to meet that need.
Launched in 1997, ICIJ is a project of the Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit, nonpartisan investigative research organization, based in Washington, D.C..
ICIJ extends globally the Center's style of enterprise journalism in the public interest by marshaling the talents of the world's leading investigative reporters to focus on issues that do not stop at water's edge. ICIJ supports and showcases the best international investigative reporting and, through that, hopes to be a force for greater global accountability.

The Association of European Journalists (AEJ) was founded in 1961 in San Remo by 70 journalists from the then-six member states of the European Economic Community.
Today the association is registered under Belgian law (identification number 21625/96) as an independent non-profit international organization. It is an NGO in operational relations with UNESCO and enjoys consultative status in the Council of Europe.
The AEJ consists of sections, each separately established in different countries of Europe. These are not required to be members of the European Union, but must be members of the Council of Europe. As of November 2000, there were sections in 17 countries, with a total membership of well over a thousand.
Most activities are arranged at the local level. International coordination is overseen by an Executive Committee, composed of representatives of all member sections. Administration is by a Secretariat, headed by a Secretary General.
A General Assembly is held each year, in which all members may participate The number of votes held by each section is in proportion to its number of paid-up members.
