The world behind a glass of South-African wine. Emma Lesuis went back to the winery where she made the documentary "Vir 'n glasie wyn" (For a glass of wine) and saw that little had changed. That's why she went looking for solutions and discovered the world of Fairtrade. 

BELGIUM - "Whoever has a good résumé will find work anyway." This is what Belgian politician Bart De Wever said in the run-up to the elections of May 2014. But is that so? Especially for people over fifty it is becoming increasingly difficult to get a job, no matter how long their CV is.

MAURITANIA - Officially, slavery does no longer exists in Mauritania, a barren desert country in West Africa. But according to Anti-Slavery International, at least 4% of the Mauritanians are still the property of a master. They are born as slaves and have never been free. Not even in their minds.

The jeans or denim jacket that you bought recently have likely been made in Cambodia. A strike of thousands of textile workers was violently suppressed there a year ago. Journalist Ate Hoekstra and photographer Kristof Vadino show that not much has changed since then.

ARGENTINA - Just outside Neuquén, at 'kilometre 7' on Ruta-7, lies the factory of ceramic tiles Zanon. There they are achieving something very special. Ten years ago the workers of Zanon took over their factory. The expropriation has been completed since January.

SWITZERLAND - What makes Switzerland surprisingly different, that organic, regional products, fair trade and eco-labels score the highest here? Who really knows how to put the Swiss on the track of a sustainable economy?

BELGIUM/ROMANIA - When Romania became a member of the European Union in 2007, a transitional measure was voted in Belgium whereby Romanians needed a work permit in order to be able to work. A direct consequence of this was that many Romanians ended up in the informal circuit or were employed under the wrong statute.

SOUTH-AFRICA - South African winegrowers produce more than seven thousand different wines and are among the wealthy elite in the country. Millions of consumers around the world taste the high quality of South African wine, but the workers who pick and process the grapes barely enjoy the added value produced.

Several ten thousands of illegal Brasilians work on Belgian construction sites. They are also known as the ‘new Poles’. Journalists Nico Schoofs and Filip Michiels of Vacature Magazine lay bare the shady business behind the exploitation of those cheap labourers.

TURKEY - Two shy young men start to work in an all-inclusive hotel. A new, absurd world opens up to them. Colourful swimsuits, an abundance of food and the management’s demands ensure they will never be the same again.
