Dick Maes Broekema (°1952) is a Dutch freelance journalist.
He was born on 10 September 1952 in Zandvoort aan Zee, province of North Holland, the Netherlands and today lives in Harderwijk, the Netherlands.
After secondary school, he studied Dutch Language and Literature, for which he acquired the so-called 'house certificate'. His aim with this study was to enter written journalism; before that, he was briefly a photographer in London for the Japanese magazine Daho Foto (photo news) and JiJi-press (similar to Belga in Belgium and the ANP in the Netherlands).
In 1972, he became a journalist with the Veluws Dagblad newspaper. Four years later, he became a journalist/copywriter at the international agency Lintas (now Lintas Media Group).
In 1980, he started his public relations agency in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, which continued until 2018. In between business, he attended various postgraduate courses at the Academy for Entrepreneurship of the University of Groningen (RUG) in trend management, (mass) communication and strategic leadership. Maes Broekema is a BATT-certified counsellor. In 2023, he completed studies in practical theology and religious studies at Maria Theresa College of the Catholic University of Leuven, similar to an Associate Degree. His graduation thesis was entitled 'The Pastorate As Media Organisation'.
Today, he works as a freelance (camera) journalist/publicist/programme maker and media and communications consultant for various clients, including the Dutch daily newspaper and various religious organisations.
