Griet Hendrickx (1983) is a Belgian & Kenyan based photographer.

She uses the medium to document stories about social issues from East Africa and beyond.

Specialising in portrait and documentary photography, she combines working for international (non-profit) organisations, magazines and newspapers with personal projects.

For her, it is not just about making beautiful images, it is about telling a story in the most honest way possible. She believes that only through a genuine dedication to a place and community, by opening your mind and having genuine interest and respect, can meaningful work be made. This is why she prefers to work on long-term projects. Nowadays, video, audio and text are becoming equally important in her work.

Positive imagery is her starting point. Simplicity, sobriety and a mutual respect are central. She focuses her lens mainly on the South, where, in addition to her own projects, she made reports in cooperation with various organisations (including Oxfam Solidarity, World Shops, Doctors Without Vacation, Solid Peru, Vets Without Borders, ... ). Her work has appeared in De Morgen, De Standaard and Mo* Magazine, Weekend Knack, Le Vif, among others.
