Lennart Soberon is Artistic Coordinator at KASKcinema and a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
He obtained his PhD in 2020 from Ghent University with a thesis on the construction of the enemy image in American action films. In this research, he combined a longitudinal study of Hollywood villains since the 1980s with a thorough analysis of the cinematic practices surrounding the creation of enemies.
In addition to his work as a postdoctoral researcher, Lennart is artistic coordinator of the non-profit arthouse cinema KASKcinema and co-founder of Kinoautomat: a cinephile cultural initiative and a Dutch-language film studies journal for students.
Within the ERC-funded project Reel Borders, he explores themes such as antagonism and border formation; he is also interested in issues such as genre, emotion, trauma and spectacle.
