Marlies Geyskens (°1991) is a Belgian freelance journalist working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

She has a keen interest in human interest stories, with a focus on personal accounts and broader social issues.

In 2023, she undertook an internship at MO* Magazine in the DRC, where she further specialised in international journalism. That same year, she wrote her bachelor’s thesis, a magazine entitled “Women of Congo”, in which she highlighted not only the challenges but also the resilience and strength of Congolese women.

Since December 2024, Marlies has been living and working permanently in the DRC. There, she produced a documentary for “De Nomaden”, in which she brought local stories and social issues to the screen. Previously, she also worked for Arena for Journalism.

Through her work, Marlies aims to shed light on under-reported stories and give a voice to those who are too often unheard in society.
