Philippe Herbet was born in Ougrée, Belgium, in 1964. He is a photographer and writer.

He has exhibited his work in Belgium, France, Brazil and other places. Several monographs have been published about him, including Herbet: Dadas', published by Caïd in 2021, and his debut short story collection, Fils de prolétaire, published by Arléa in Paris.

Whether he is far away or in his homeland, somewhere between Liège and Svaneti, Philippe Herbet views the world with clarity, humility and wonder, without artifice. As both a solitary traveller and an observer of a collective, his journeys take him to all corners of the globe, undoubtedly in search of himself and the other, the generous spirit that he captures with his camera. He brings back from his travels portraits, landscapes and images accompanied by words and impressions that capture a series of memories, just as negatives ensure permanence. His understated photography reveals his appreciation for life and the traces it leaves behind. Immersing oneself in his work is like taking a journey through a hinterland nourished by the passing years and imbued with a constant invitation to meditation.

Philippe Herbet studied photography at the Saint-Luc Institute in Liège. To date, he has published seven books and regularly exhibits his work in Belgium, France, Germany, Belarus and beyond.
