Simon Marijsse is a Belgian author and researcher. By training, he is a philosopher, public administration expert and political scientist.

In 2023, he received his doctorate in Development Studies (University of Antwerp) and in Social and Cultural Anthropology (KU Leuven). Based on long-term fieldwork in conflict regions, including urbane Brazil and rural North and South Kivu, DR Congo, Simon became primarily interested in everyday expressions of (over)life in underbelly economies. His first monograph on religion and narcotraffic in Brazil, Leave, Spirit! was published by KULeuven Press. Recent publications on DR Congo focus mainly on the place of technology and geology in postcolonial landscapes.
