DEVENTER - On 18 and 19 September 2026, the historic city centre of Deventer transforms into the beating heart of Dutch journalism. The Nederlands Journalistiek Festival (NLJF) brings together journalists from across the country — from investigative reporters and podcast makers to editors-in-chief and media researchers — for two days of conversation, exchange, and reflection on the future of the craft.
The festival takes place across multiple venues in Deventer's medieval inner city, all within easy walking distance of each other. Through panels, lectures, workshops, live journalism theatre, film screenings, and exhibitions, there is something for everyone working in or around the press.
On Saturday 19 September, the doors open wide to the general public — anyone curious about how journalism works, and how it can be done better, is welcome.
Admission is free, made possible by the support of funds, public bodies, and sponsors.
Language Most of the programme is in Dutch, but we are offering a growing number of English-language sessions. These are listed
