AMSTERDAM/BRUSSELS - Gay & Grey is a documentary series by director Julia M. Free in a co-production with VRT Canvas and DeMensen. The series follows the daily lives of senior lesbian couples, aged 70 and above, whose relationships have stood the test of time.
Their decades-long partnership and choice for each other makes them pioneers in the search for identity and finding their place in society. They reveal the transformation from yesterday to today and shed light on the road ahead.
Gay & Grey gives a voice to a generation that is often overlooked, a segment of our society whose inner lives are rarely explored. The series shows how these couples managed to sustain their relationships in a world where they were not allowed to exist.
In doing so, it aims to address the persistent lack of lesbian representation (in age) and break the silence around older women's sexuality. With the potential to fundamentally change our view of femininity, old age and sexuality.
