‘Flanders Connects Continents’. That is our objective with the grant programme of the same name, which we introduced at the beginning of December last year. The first application round closed on 24th December. There are two more to come.

With only three weeks between launch and deadline, the first application period was rather short. But that was no excuse for 7 teams of investigative journalists to hand in several high quality proposals by December 24th. 18 men and 7 women from 5 European and 8 Sub-Sahara African countries submitted a total of 8 interesting cross-border investigative projects

The topics varied from politics over finance to security and health. The candidates did their best; now it is up to the jury to decide. A team of 4 specialists, two Belgians and two Africans, will consider all applications with the greatest care and will reflect on who gets a part of the €120,000 in grant money there is to divide. The jury will gather end of January. We will keep you informed of their decisions.

There are two more application rounds to come, one with a deadline on 1st April and one closing on 1st June. More information via www.flandersconntinents.org.
