Miet Ooms is a translator (English/German - (Belgian) Dutch), journalist, columnist, speaker and author.

She also translates into flemish: she adapts texts of Dutch companies and organizations for a Flemish audience. For De lage landen, she writes on various topics around the theme of 'language'. In a former life, she collaborated as a scientific collaborator on the Dictionary of Brabant Dialects and was a teacher of Dutch and German in secondary education, freelance language teacher and language consultant. Since 2015, she has been mapping variation in Dutch on her website taalverhalen.be and giving lectures, webinars and workshops on the subject. In 2020, her book came out: Buurtaal. Practical Guide to Dutch in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2022, the books 'Tot in de puntjes. Practical reading guide' and 'First aid for language issues'.
