BRUSSELS - Do you have a good idea for a journalistic story, that really matters? What about that story-idea, you never got around to do as you lacked the money for the research? Today the European Fund for Investigative Journalism, EFIJ, for the first time calls for proposals to distribute a sum of 20.000 euro for research grants.

Do you have a good idea for a journalistic story, that really matters? What about that story-idea, you never got around to do as you lacked the money for the research? And what about the idea you dismissed, because you did not have the time to find the right partner from media in another country to cooperate with on the research for that story? Then have a look here:

Today the European Fund for Investigative Journalism, EFIJ, for the first time calls for proposals to distribute a sum of 20.000 euro for research grants.

The mission of EFIJ is to promote quality journalism in Europe by giving journalists the chance to carry out journalistic research projects. The project should be one that, in principle, could not be realised in this format within the remit of regular journalism – a project that should include cross-border research, networking between colleagues, established and innovative investigative methods and that is at the same time original, innovative and intensive.

EFIJ is in it’s pilot phase. With seed-funding by the Norwegian foundation for the freedom of expression, Fritt Ord and through a cooperation with the Network of European Foundations, NEF, we are currently building up a structure firmly rooting The European Fund for Investigative Journalism in the active European community for investigative journalism.

EFIJ is a project of the Belgian Pascal Decroos Fund, that has ten years experience in granting support for research journalism and parenting journalistic projects. On the longer term, EFIJ will become an independent organisation.
