BRUSSELS - In honour of World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, the fifth edition of Difference Day will take place in BOZAR, Brussels. Difference Day honours people and organisations that make a difference in protecting and promoting freedom of the press and freedom of expression.
In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3rd as the World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness on the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Alan Rusbridger at Difference Day
The programme includes films, debates and exhibitions on freedom of expression and the press in all its aspects and challenges. There is an adapted programme for students, including a fake news workshop.
Alan Rusbridger, former editor-in-chief of The Guardian and author of Breaking News: the remaking of journalism and why it matters now, has been invited to take part in a panel discussing the positive impact investigative journalists can have on society and on their new ways of working together, including across borders. Journalism Fund helped put together this panel.
